THAT SAME SWEET SONG.

— Lilian.

It has all been said before, dear, When this sad old world was young ; When oui father, Adam, wandered Fair Eden's bowers among, He learned the rhythmiz love songs, In Nature's every tongue, And in Eve's fair ear he breathed them, And she sweet answer sung. And when the tiouble came, dear, The sin, the grief, the care — From the dear old garden banished, A pain-racked life to share ; Still Adam sang of true love, That made the desert fan, And Eve of how love helped her The weary exile bear. Thro' ages past till now, dear, Has that deathless tale been told ; In many 8 modem Eden Bings that same sweet song oi old. And souls bowed down in sorrow Love's tender words upnold ; And even sin and weakness Love's loving arms enfold. And so it is with me, dear, And thus it is with you — We've smiled in sunny Edens, We've toiled thro' deserts, too ; And we've found in joy and sonovv That Love is ever true. And tha' million tongues have sung it, Still the sweet old song is new. Darlinghurst, December 9
