The Suburb of Miramar.
Our readers will be interested m the announcement which appears in. our advertising columns to-day of the first sale of the suburb of Miramar. So much has been said durin"- the last two years as to the necessity of purchasing the Miramar Estate in order to convert it into a erreat public park for the use and benefit of vie people of the city of Wellington that everyone is more or less familiar with Miramar. It is easy to see now that a creat opportunity was missed when the citizens rejected the proposal to purchase the estate. * * * Some enterprising citizens of Wellington, recognising the necessity for additional suburban land, and the special adaptability of Miramar as a residential spot, have secured the property from the Messrs. Crawford. Arrangements have been made for its subdivision and sale. The first sale by public auction will be held on the 30th instant, and Messrs. Macdonald, Wilson and Co.. the well-known auctioneers, have been entrusted with the disposal of the property. • » • The advertisement sets forth in very clear and explicit language the claims that Miramar has upon the public whether looked at as an investment or as a place of residence. The facts that villa residences can be built there at a comparatively small expense, that the surroundings are of extreme beauty, and that the facilities for reaching the "roinerty by road and steamer are exceptionally oreat, are strong points in its favour. ♦ * • It will come rather as a surprise to learn that one can reach Miramar by steamer in less tome than one can reach Newtown by the present tramway service and at a less cost. It will be sufficient at this stage to say that the terms of sale have been fixed with, a view to enable everyone who may desire to purchase to secure a section without any undue pressure upon their finances, a email deposit of ten per cent, being the only money required at the sale, while the great bulk of the purchase money can remain unpaid for five years, bearing interest at 5 per cent, per annum. • * * The new owners of the property, with commendable foresight, have arranged to give the public of Wellington the opportunity of free excursions by steamer in order that all may visit the land. They have charatered the steamer "Admiral," which will leave the Ferry
Wharf, Wellington, for Miramar Wharf, even' Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons up to the day of sale, conveying passengers free of cost. The first steamer will leave on Sunday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock. It has also been arranged that competent persons will be in attendance ur>on the ground to show the boundary pegs of the various sections. * * ♦ A visit to the breezy golf links of Miramar and its hockey and r>olo grounds is at all times a pleasure, and the Evans Bay and Miramar Estate Company are to be congratulated on their enterprise in affording the public such exceptional opportunities of seeing the land they are submitting for sale. We may also mention that a very large lithographic plan has been prepared showing each section in detail ; also a locality plan, which enables one at a glance to see the position of Miramar as compared with the wharf, Post Office, and other prominent points of interest in? Wellington. Copies of this plan can be obtained on application to the auctioneers, and they will also probably be available on board of the excursion steamers.
