THh management ot the Amateui Athletic Club must h^ e been c inpletd\ sot back b-s the pool attendance' of the public at then sports Hunting on Satuuia.> A hnei cl<u could not ha\c boon made to oidei, tlie competitions pionnsecl to be mteie.stiag, a bra^s band was provided to enliven the proceedings — vet, with all these attractions the total cash taken at the gates amounted to the munificent mm of hardh £14 If the Amateur Athletic Club aie not thoioughly disheartened, they ought to be , for it must need quite uncommon fortitude to run a sports gathering cheerfully under the depressing handicap of a miserable attendance of the public. Dealing with the sport*, themsehes, the- best performance of the day was Pollock's run in the 440yds Ladies' Biacelet Starting oft oyds, he soon had his hold well m hand and, coming down the straight full of running, he breasted the tipe in the good time of ■12 1-othsec The standard time for the distance was o3sec, and there is no doubt at all but that Pollock would have got within this time, and won the race a.s well if he had started off the mark A foolish mn was Henderson's in the mile. Starting fiom 20yds, m a held of four, he dashed away at a sprinting pace, and soon was leading the field although he had only gone out for one lound. Once in front he kept going till the last lap when Vosselei challenged him They ran together for a few vards, and then Henderson stopped altogether, but chancing to look uund, and seeing the only other competitor still lunning along way behind, he logged on to the finish, and got there second Mr Hempton, the referee, disqualified Henderson — what for, I don't know It was a case of acting the ' silly ox" — there was no suspicious running or anything of that nature Henderson had a good day. He won the Victoria College 220yds, the 440yd& Hurdles, and Half-mile, while his brother triumphed in the Victoria College Half-mile Duff and Odlm dead-heated in the Junior 100yds, Manson won the 100yds. A. Simm the 220vds, and F. Ross the Mile Walk The competitions weie very keen in some instances, the handicapper having brought the men verv well together, but in other instances, through lack of competitors the events hurt one to w atch them . Mr. MeCardle's starting was on the whole very good, a,nd only m one case' — the 220yds — did any of the runners ge<t away before the pistol went off. The compilei of the programme must have anticipated thei beautiful weather tliat prevailed — for he called it the ' Spring" meeting of the club
