The Viotonn College students' very succosshil cntei tammcnt, at the Syd-nov-fetu'ct Hall, on Wednesday night, was gnen before a large audience. Mr. J W Hill Miss Julia Moran, Mr. F. P Wilson, Miss R Richardson, Mr Douglas. Jackson, and Mr A. Newton contributed musical items. The cast tor the extravaganza. ' Horace at the Universitv of Athens," was a remarkably good one, and the students 1 showed e\ ulence or having carefully studied then paits. A pleasing feature was the presentation by Professor Maclaunn of a handsome silver-mounted w alkingstick to Mr H E. Nicholls, who had trained the students. The twenty -second anniversary of the diapoi\ establishment of Messrs. Veitch and Allan Cuba-street, was celebrated on Wednesday by a picnic given by the firm to their emplovoos, who left in six large drags at noon for Bellevue Gardens Lower Hutt. On arrival an excellent dinner was provided by Messrs. Orr and Lodder (proprietors). The shop assistants' handicap was won by Mr. Jaffrav tailors' handicap, Mr. C'romn appi entices' race, Master Marsh. The skipping competition for the show-room was gracefully won by Miss A. Clark, tailoresses', Miss Moran shop assistants'. Miss Peck. The egg and <tooon race was won by Miss Steel and Mr. Craig. It was a delightful outing The removal of the offices of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporartion to more commodious, premises m the Colonial Mutual Buildings was marked by the holding of a. very successful At Home On the invitation of Mr C M Montefiore, the general manager for New Zealand, a large number of well-known citizens assembled at the new offices on Saturday last for the purpose of wishing continued success to the Ocean, and the hearty manner in which this was done bore eloquent testimony to the popularity of the company and its general manager. It is now some tw o and a-hailf years since Mr. Montefiore planted the "Ocean" in New Zealand, and it ic no exaggeration to sav that the growth of its business during that period has been little short of phenomenal
