Amateur Championships.
The Australasian championships to be decided at Auckland next week are attracting a deal of attention just now though not as much as in former years on account of the weak team being sent bv the Wellington Club. The New South Wales team is composed of W. O'Reilly (hammer and shot\ W- Lindsay (hurdles and broad ]ump) S. W York (male and three miles'), A A Oxlade Smarter and half mile), A L. McAlister (running, high and broad ■jump and pole vault) The Victorian team is G A. Moir (sprints), H. H. Hunter (sprints, hurdles, and broad jump) E W Mitchell (quarter and half mile) C. H. Gardner (hurdles and broad -jump), L. M. Maopherson (hurdles and broad jump) H Sutton and Wills (one mile run), Geo. Blake (one and three mile runs) R. Purbrick (one and three mile walks) The Quensland team will be composed of six members, the names of three of which are available, viz Geo Hawkes (hammer and shot), DArcy Wentworth (quarter, half, and mile), and P. F Corrigan (one and three mile walks) The probables for the other positions aare — Chas. Campbell (sprints, quarter, and half) J. P. Mahoney or C. C Saunderson (middle and long distances), and A. Scott (Sprints). The New Zealand team will, I presume, be selected after the New Zealand Championship meeting, in Auckland, on the 18th, and will probably include - G. Smith (hurdles and sprints), D. Wilson (walks), Te Paa (pole vault), Simpson (one and three mxLe runs), Webster (220 yds and quarter), and W Madill (hammer throwing). It is a nice team on paper, any way.
