Yachting.
Last Saturday was an off-day as far as racing was concerned, a few of the yachts taking a cruise down the harbour. Being favoured with a light southerly on Sunday, most of the yaohts went for a cruise outside the Heads. The Maritana has been very unlucky this season. Four planks hare had to be replaced through Viking having collided with her, when she carried away her moorings, and also losing her bowsprit tihrough a httle misjudgment on the part of Rainbow. However, the Maritana is once more ready for the water, and will be launched this week. The yawl Ngaira (Mr John Jack) will probably make the trip to the Marlborough Soundsi at the Christmas vacation, m company with Rainbow and lorangi. Sir Thomas Lipton, when addressing his crew before the races for the America Cup, saad — "Lads, if we are successful m bringing the Cup across the At>lantic, it is my extreme desire to settle on each of you the sum of £1 per week for life " (Continued on Page 19.)
