The Red Bird Cycle Agency have piesented a valuable cup to the Wellington Cvehng Club for competition amongst its member* in a seues of road races. The hist race is to be held on the 7th December and nominations close on Satuiday next. The race is to be m tbe nature or a hill-climbing competition, the course being from the Kaiw arra Hotel, through the Gorge to Ciofton. Mr. Goodwin who has a residence out that way will dispense afteinoon tea to the competitors, and many of them to my idea, will find that the pleasautest part of the outing A peculiar difficulty presented itself to the club in arranging tins competition What with b\e-la\\s of the Cit'x Council and adjacent Borough Councils not forgetting the Police Offences Act, it was found impossible to conduct a, road race w here a speed of over eight miles an hour could be attained, and hence the onh wa\ out of the trouble was m the nature of tlu competition aria nged Now that cycling laces particulaiK in. Wellington are on the decline, it is d pit\ that a laudable effort on the part of the ( \ cling Club to cater foi its racing members .should find such a. barrier m it.s wa\ In an\ case the club deserve commendation, and the Red Bird CScle Agenc\ are entitled to thanks for their efforts to lßMve interest in eveling For m\ own part I venture to think if the proper authorities were approached load races at stated intervals would be permitted, and I tiu^t the Cycling Club will loave no stone unturned to endeavoui to get the necessary permission The handicaps for the Austral Wher-1 Race were issued on the 4th instant About one hundred and sixty riders have nominated W Martin is the ouh one on the mark of honour The final of the World's Fair Wheel Race £100, £40, and £10, was decided at the Melbourne Exhibition track on the 2nd instant, and resulted in a win for F A. Muiphv (110 yds). with F. Beauehamp second, and Martin third Time, 4min 18 4-ssec. It is stated that Dan Plunkett will start in this year's Austral Wheel Race Other New Zealanders on the "other bide" are thus referred to — "Chalmers w ill shake them all up this season Tm o very welcome additions to our solid rulers are Maurice Randrup and C Bur-
ton, from New Zealand They did not enter for any of la&t Saturday's races, but will appear in public shortly. Randrup is a nuggety rider, of very heavy build, and only a colt of twenty-four to look at Burton is slighter, and about the same age as Ins mate. They are training' steadily and moving well."
