EAGER TO SHAKE HANDS WITH " THE DOOK." Sub-stantial Citizen (bowled over by the crowd rushing through the rain to Government House) Halloa, what the deuce do you mean ? What's the matter ? Where's the fire ? Breathless Gent (responsible for the collision) Beg pardon, I'm sure. It's no fire. Don't you read the papers ? I thought everybody knew by this time the Governor has left his visitors' book open at Government House for the names of the people who want invites to meet the Duke and Duchess. Substantial Citizen : Well, what's your hurry, anyhow ? Isn't there time enough for the whole city to write down their names ? Breathless Gent . Don't you believe it ? First come, first served, you know. That's what my wife says, and that's why this here crowd means to be right on the job. Ta, ta.
