The annual regatta was hold at Potonp last Saturday The water was fairly good, and the lacing was firstclass Only two ciews staited for the Junior Fours, Canterbury and Wellington. , Aftei h<ilf the distance had been travel sod, the Wellington crow got tired, and Canterbury had tilings all their own way, winning eventually by three lengths Three crews staited in the Maiden F ours — Canterbury, Star, and Wellington. The stroke or the Wellington crew did not put m an appearance, so they had to low a substitute, which greatly lessened then chance. It was a splendid race until about a quarter of a mile from homo, when Canto) bury forged ahead, and won by about a length, Wellington filling second place. Four crews started in the Senior Double Sculls- — Canterbury two crews, Wellington, and Stars The two Canterbury crews were fighting out the finish, when one capsized, and the other ran ashore, leaving Wellington to row over and secure first place. TheStars gave up after having gone a mile The Junior Fours was a good race between the Wellington and Canteibury crews. The former won by a length and a hah 0 The Stais also staited. Onl> two crews faced the staitor m the Senioi Pairs, viz , Cauteibury and Wellington The lattei were never in trouble, and won by four lengths. The Youths' Fours brought out three starters — Canterbury, Star, and Wellington The Canteibuiy crew went away at the start, and were never headed, winning by two lengths The starters in the Single Sculls weio Junss (Chnstchurch Amateuis), Cox and Hutchison (Star), and Calnan (Wellington). Calnan led for the greater part, of the distance, when Hutchison challenged him, and made the pace so hot that Calnan had to give way, and be content with second place. Cox, who was some distance away, filled the third position. Junss, after going half the distance, contented himself with bomg a spectatoi The Cantoibury Club aie to bo congiatulated on their splendid success, winch was the lesult of hard and consistent training. The total amount of prize money won by them amounted to £50 If the local men would only put moie energy and hard work into their tiaitung, they would not have fallen away at the finish of almost each race as they did on Saturday. The Wellington Club won £27, and the Stars The New South Wales Bowling Association has invited a visit fiom our Northern Bowling Association at Kastor time. In view of the fact that both Sydney and Newcastle were represented at last yeai's tournament in Auckland, this invitation cannot in courtesy be ignored.
