Feilding meeting on Thursday and Friday of next week. Mr G. G. Stead parted with Sant Ilario, who cost 900gs as a yearling and never won a race, for 270gs. Kent scored twice on the second day of the Marlborough meeting. Mr Donald Fraser is said to have refused £3000 for Advance. Mr J. E. Henrys has been spending a holiday .at Hamner Plains. The registration of lease of Record Eeign has been withdrawn. Victor Harris purchased Magnificent from Mr W. G. Stead for £'150. Second day of the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting at Petone to-day (23rd). Ladybird has produced a full sister to Lottie, the Thompson Handicap winner. Conqueror obtained first prize at the Waimate Show in the thoroughbred class. Bed Ribbon won the Havelock Cup on November 9th for the fourth year in succession. Gobo went wrong at Riccarton, and was not started. For some reason Boreas did not start. Although Derritt only rode one winner at Riccarton, he was on the second horse six times. Seahorse's sisters Zealous and Rattler each ran into a place on two occasions at Ellerslie. Miss Delaval, Cavaleiro, and Record Reign went home to Auckland from Riccarton. Auckland Cup weights are' due on Monday next. What will Mr Evitt give Advance ? F. McMinamin trains Nonette and La Gloria, who have scored five times out of six starts this season. Norton's four-year-old brother, Terence, started in a Maiden Plate at Ellerslie, but failed to get a place. The Hon. J. D. Ormond will not be represented at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting this week. Fred. Davis, who rides for the Hon. J. D. Ormond, had a ticket on the £200 dividend at Christchurch. Henry Redwood (the Father of the Turf) won the principal event at the Blenheim meeting last week. Waitekauri and 'his dam (Yum Yum) ran first and second in the Class Trot at Potter's Paddock last week. New Zealanders got their share of Tattersall's prizes on the Cup meeting. The four principal winners divided £11.450. " Boz " states that Nonette's owner has had an offer of £1500 for the Seaton Delaval— Charente colt. A very fair price. F. Jores, an apprentice connected with the Yaldhurst stable, had his first mount in the Juvenile Stakes, on Menschikoff, and won. The Messrs Nathan, of Sylvia Park Stud, have bred the winners of the Great Northern Guineas and Welcome Stakes for three successive years. D. Allen, the successful Victorian horseman, sustained a fractured thigh through Mysore falling with him in the Victorian Steeplechase on Melbourne Cup day. The Wellington Park yearlings, to be submitted in January next, number 26 lots. Outside sires represented are — Seaton Delaval, Muskapeer, St Jack, and Musketry. A. Richardson, who had the mount on Clean Sweep in the Melbourne Cup, is a light weight connected with T. Payten's stable. It was his first mount in a Melbourne Cup. Full Cry paid £50 Is in the Jackson Memorial Stakes at Waverley. Last year, Marianthus paid £54 12s in the Final Stakes, the name of which has been changed as above. At the Eldexslie sale, Mr "W. E. Bidwill purchased a filly by Gipsy Grand— lllusion for 70gs ; and C. Patterson a colt by Stepniak— Britomarte for 90gs. The latter has joined J. Lowes team at the Hutt.

During Carnival week at Christchurch four days racing and four days trotting £92,558 was put through the totalisators. The new rule of bracketing horses was found useful on three occasions at Riccarfcon. It also did away with the " boohooing " which has previously taken place on the same course. Prologue, who won the Taratahi Hack Handicap at Carterton, and paid a big dividend, is a five-year-old mare by Catesby— Rosalind, half-sister to Royal Rose and other well-known performers. The three-year-old colt Takapuna (St. Hippo— Anna) made his first appearance with the colours up at Ellerslie last week. In a field of fifteen he finished a length away from Hororo, and was paying over £50. La Gloria and Nonette, who won £970 between them at Ellerslie, are owned by Mr J. T. Ryan, an hotelkeeper at "Waitekanri. The half-sister and brother were purchased as yearlings at Sylvia Park for 75gs and 105gs respectively. Kissaline (the Hotchkiss— Brown Alice filly) acted as runner-up to Nonette in the Musket Stakes and scored- on the third day at Ellerslie. She cost 70 guineas last January, and was one of the best bargains at Wellington Park. J. Chaafe junr. trains the jumper Cannongate who scored twice at Ellerslie, and is under offer to a Sydney buyer. Cannon, sire of Cannongate, was one of the grey Musket— Maid of Athol tribe, and about the greatest frost seen on Auckland tracksMr Robert Wynyard forwards the Takapuna Jockey Club's book programme for the season. The club started in 1881, when £410 was given in stakes for two meetings. The club ha? steadily progressed, and this season the added money amounts to £5300. A good deal of surprise was expressed at the Metropolitan Club passing the Lower Valley programme for two days and rescinding their former resolution that one day was plenty for Martinborough. The country club can thank Mr Hornsby for the interest he takes in its welfare. On the concluding day of the" Auckland meeting, Beddington got a mile and a quarter successfully in good company. If he continues to improve he may make a good race of it with Renown in the Great Northern Derby. Some good favourites have gone down in this race, viz., Seahorse, Altair, Gold Medallist, and Bluefire. Menschikoff and Indian Queen were the highest priced 'yearlings at the Elderslie sale last year, and both paid their purchase money the first meeting they raced at. ' On their subsequent running at Riccarton, Indian Queen would appear to have been lucky in beating Mr Stead's colt in the "Welcome Stakes. Mr A. A. McMaster, of Toharahi, who owns and bred Tsaritza, sold a full sister at Dunedin, last March, for 9 guineas. At the same sale he parted with two fillies from Glorvina (Apremont — Mrs Rawdon) for 14 and 15 guineas, and a gelding from Sail Rock (Stoneyhurst— Wainui) for 12 guineas, all by Stepniak. Mr McMaster bought Glorvina at the Middlepark yearling sale for 45gs, and has got his outlay back in Tsaritza. Enticer, who won the Winton Guineas on November 9th, is a son of Remembrance (Fusilier — Jealousy) and the Canterbury Oaks winner, Enchantress. His half-brother, Glenelg (by Ike, the Piscator — Lady horse Mr Stead tried to win a New Zealand Cup with), won the principal event the second day. Mr John Teonaht, who owns Enchantress and her sons, has a five-year-old sister to Enticer and a yearling filly named Hate, by Stepniak. Miss Childe, who paid the big dividend of £206 4s at Christchurch, will cause her backers some anxiety until the money is paid o\er. Horses who have paid over .£2OO in the machine in this colony are : — Crummy, Fire Brigade Handicap, Town ai*d Suburban Meeting, Napier, 1883, £306 ; Ipswich, Electric Trot, Canterbury Trotting Club, 1893, £285 17s ; Louie, Spring Handicap, Napier, 1882, £259 (£2 ticket) ; Kalo, Shorts Handicap, Auckland, 1885, £251 14s; Mavis, Tradesmen's Handicap, Hawke's Bay, 1881. £223 4s (£2 ticket). After his four victories at Ellerslie last week, Hohora may claim the title of champion sprinter of the North. He finished up by winning under lOst 71bs. How he would have fared at Riccarton with Blazer, Goldspur arid Co., is a different matter. Tasman (sire of Hohora), with whom the name of Dan OBrien will always be coupled, was more of a stayer than a sprinter, but reliable at any distance. Lady Moth was by St. Leger — Titania. Mr E. F. Roche has a halfbrother to Hohora, by Seaton Delaval, rising three years, and a two-year-old full-brother.
