MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
Wednesday, July 12, 1843. /COUNCIL MET. Present:—G. Hunter, Mayor, in the chair; Aldermen Lyon, Fitzherbert, Dorset, Jenkins, Johnson, Guyton, Waitt. Letter from Jas. Sellar, read, offering to rent seventy acres of the Town Belt. < Letter from A. E. Macdonogh, Esq., P.M., read, refusing to furnish the Corporation with Depositions taken on the late affair at Wairau. The Committee appointed for framing Petitions to both Houses of Parliament read the address prepared by them to be forwarded to the Settlers at Nelson. Mr. Lyon moved, and Dr. Dorset seconded —; That the address be adopted. Carried unanimously/ Mr. Lyon moved, and Mr. Guyton seconded —That the draft of a Petition to the Houses of Parliament as read be adopted. Carried unanimously. Mr. Lyon moved, and Mr. Johnson seconded. —That 'Messrs. Hunter, Fitzherbert, andGuyton, again make application to Mr. Macdonogh, for permission to allow them to take copies of the depositions taken on the late calamitous affair at Wairau. Carried unanimously. Adjourned till Saturday next at 10 o’clock..
