THE CONFESSION.
With sorrow and repentance true', Father, I trembling come to you, I know I’ve too indulgent been To one,—but, oh ! forgive the sin ; To one whom still I love, though he Ungrateful prove", and. false to hie : Then let ine on my knees confess* How I’ve been tempted to transgress. Oh! rev’rend- father, if-you knew The charms of him; Alas ! untrue; Oh! had you heard the false one swear I was.the fairest of the fair ; You would not, holy sir, refuse So sligHt a tb excuse : He swore he’d rievCr love me IeSS ; ; Oh!, then confess ? Tb grifef, eternal grief, a-pfey, TElis name is; all my heart <jan say; When bathed; in sad, repentant tears. Still to -toy mind that name appears: Yes,‘ ’tis that'Yia'm^,—that irmmfc hlone ALCAiNDoh I bUtT 'can’t express^ O! fathehh-must'l then ednifess ? Oh !/tell him, should he come toyou, / Andfthus, liice. me,: for-,merefy spe; .. of all the. crimes acurst, Tmlhim inconstancy’s th‘e worst; TCll hith; that he Who’s false in love, Gan ne’er hope pity from above ; iiThll him;; that.l.'albhe.can:bless'; And'send him.to me to confess. . w.w.w.
