PUBLIC MEETING.

In pursuance of an advertisement in the Gazette of Wednesday, a public meeting took place at Barrett’s Hotel, yesterday evening, at seven o’clock, to take measures for the celebration of the third anniversary of the Colony. At half-past 7 o’clock, Mr. Hunter moved, That Col. Wakefield take the Chair, which was seconded by Mr. James Watt, and carried i^uanimously. Col. Wakefield, on taking the Chair, and having explained the object of the meeting, read over a list of the diversions proposed to take place on the day of the anniversary, and stated that there were gentlemen present prepared to nominate Committees to superintend and arrange the various sports and amusements of the day. Carried. Mr. J. Watt moved, That previous to the Committee being named, a subscription lie entered into in the room. Seconded by Mr. Sutton. Carried. Mr. Guyton moved, That a Committee be appointed to collect and receive subscriptions. Seconded by Mr. Barnes. The following gentlemen were nominated and appointed:— Messrs. W. B. Rhodes, Virtue, Dorset, Wakefield, jun., Hunter, St. Hill, Duke, Guyton, Molesworth, Murphy. A vote of thanks was passed to Col. Wakefield, and the meeting shortly after adjourned. o
