ST. ANDREW’S DAY.

Yesterday, the anniversary of the Tutelar Saint of the “ Land o’ Cakes,” was celebrated at Barrett’s Hotel, with all the fervor which distinguishes the natives of Caledonia, in whatever quarter of the world they may be found. Geo. Hunter, Esq., J.P., the Mayor, in the chair; Mr. Alderman Lyon, croupier. The usual loyal and patriotic toasts were drank, and those peculiar to these Islands, and their new settlements, were not forgotten. About thirty gentlemen, including five natives of England, and one from the Emerald Isle, spent the evening with that conviviality and kindliness of feeling, which evinced one heart and soul. “ Shouther to shouther ,” was the order of the night, and those present were gratified by some vocal music, which would have been welcomed with applause from any stage in the Old Country. Adi feelings of despondency created by the late calamitous fire, gave place to hope and confidence in the resources and energies of the Settlers, and the capabilities of tlie land of their adoption. The arrangements were most properly economical —thanks to the Stewards; and it is but justice to Mr. Suistead, of the Hotel, to state, that his table was covered by an excellent dinner, with all the appendant good things which Scotchmen, as well as Englishmen, can contrive to enjoy.— Communicated.
