FIRE RELIEF COMMITTEE.
It is respectfully requested, that such of the Agricultural, and other : settlers at Petoni, Aglionby, and the district of the River liutt generally, who have not yet had time to come forward, will now have the goodness to pay their charitable contributions as soon as possible, in aid of the funds for relieving the sufferers by the late calamity. And it is confidently expected that the sawyers, and other workmen in that part of the settlement,' will, as far as their means may allow, show a feeling of deep, united , and effective sympathy, with those, who in Wellington, (many of them) have lost their all—by contributions in timber of any suitable descriptions, where it may not be so convenient to spare money ; any aid in the shape of building materials will be equally useful and acceptable. The Committee have great pleasure in stating, that the mechanics and other workmen on this side of the Bay, are taking measures to place gratuitous labor to a considerable extent, at the disposal of the Committee, to assist those persons burnt out, who have applied for such aid, in rebuilding their shops and houses. Promises considered good without certain sums attached to them, mostly to be realised, it is hoped, in the course of a few days. The Committee sits every day at the Town Hall Exchange, at 11 o’clock a.m., where, and at the Bank, contributions will be thankfully received. Contributions tendered in Timber, &c., independent of the Money List. Mr. Low—lso feet timber M. G. Edwards—so do. Mr. Kilminster—so da. Mr. Hurst—2 canvas jackets, 2 pair do. trousers. Mrs. Hurst—B yards printed muslin, received. Mr. S. Woodward—2o superficial feet of sashes, any size the Committee wish. Anonymous—l pair blue trowsers, ldo. waistcoat, received. Messrs. Catchpool and Boyton—s cwt. flour. Mr. Bryce—Some doors and windows. Mr, Swann—loo feet timber and some blocks, besides ,£T. in Money List. Clericus—-Cloth for a gown, perhaps two, and a child’s frock. Also some offers of labour, which will by and bye be advertised in the Labour List.
