•Important to Whalers. —We have been favoured by Captain Brown, of the barque Onyx, with the following extracts from the ship’s log-book : —“ February 16th. At noon, Volcano Island W. byN., ten or twelve miles distance. 17th, At 1 p. m., saw a low "island bearing N.E. by E.; at 1 h. 30 m., p.m., saw two more low islands, and an extensive reef running from the westernmost island N.W. These islands and reef are not laid down in the charts, unless they are the low lands laid down north of Volcano Island, which are very incorrect. At 3p. m., Cape Byron (on the island of Santa Cruz) bore south; the westernmost low island north; and the easternmost island north-east. These islands, instead of bearing north from Volcano Island, bear about E.N.E., and are from twenty-five to thirty miles further than laid down in any chart. 18th, At daylight, saw Swallow Island bearing W. by S.; at 11 a.m., passed close to a shoal, the water looking very shallow; at the same time, the large island of Duff’s group bore N.E. by N.; at meridian, Disappointment Island bore -N.E. half N., seven or eight leagues distance. Latitude by meridian observation, 10 deg. 11 m. S.; longitude by chronometer, 160 deg. 50 m. E.— Sydney Herald.

The brig Patriot will sail for Hobqrt Town this day, weather permitting.
