POLICE OFFICE, Wellington, August 4, 1842.’ OROUGH OF WELLINGTON. The following Proclamation, declaring the Town of Wellington to be a Borough, defining the limits thereof, and the period within which claims to the right of voting, shall be! registered, is published for general information,' by direction of his Excellency the Governor. MICHAEL MURPHY, Chief Police PROCLAMATION(LS.j- By His Excellency WILLIAM HOBSON,’ Esquire, Captain in Her Majesty 1 s Royal Navy, and Governor and Commander iri Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony in New Zealand, and its Dependencies, and Vice Admiral of the same, &c., &c. WHEREAS, by an Ordinance enacted by the Governor of New Zealand, v®th the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Session 2, No. 6, entitled u An Ordinance to provide for the es- “ tahlishment and regulation of Municipal Corpora- “ tions,” it is enacted, that every settlement within the' Colony, having a population of two thousand souls,- shall be a Borough, and that His Excellency the Governor shall by Proclamation, declare the same to be a Borough within the meaning of the said Ordinance, and shall at the' same time, with the advice of the Executive Council, define the boundaries thereof. And whereas, it is also enacted, that His Excellency the Governor, shall by such Proclamation as aforesaid,-, prescribe a period within which all claims to the right of voting at the election of the first Council, shall be made/ and shall appoint a fit person to receive such claims, and to' act as returning Officer at such election. And whereas,the town of Wellington contains a population of upwards of two thousand souls. Now, therefore, I, the Governor, in pursuance of the provisions of the said recited Ordinance, do hereby proclaim the said Town of Wellington to be a Borough, within the meaning of the said Ordinance.- And I do’ hereby, with the advice of the Executive Council, define' and declare the boundaries of .the said Borough of Wei-' lington, to comprise all lands within the line set forth, inthe Surveyor’s Plan, as the outside Boundaries of the Public Reserve, in the plan of the Town of Port Nicholson, approved by His Excellency the Governor, and so; much of the Harbour as is comprised within a radius of seven miles from the Market Place at Pah Pipitea ; , described in the said Plan. And I do hereby also declare, that all claims to the right of voting at the election of the first Council of the Borough of Wellington, shall be made before the thirtieth day of August, 1842. And I do appoint Michael Murphy, Esquire, to receive such claims, and to act as returning Officer at such election. . Given under my hand and seal this twenty-first day of July 1842. W. HOBSON. Half-bred Leicester and merino ewes, particularly adapted for this country, as they unite weight of carcass with fineness of wool.
