As it is our object to give publicity to all sentiments that may be entertained by the body of the colonists upon any of the questions which occupy the public attention, we have to-day inserted some letters from correspondents upon the subject of the corporation. Our own opinion coincides entirely with that of, we believe, the vast majority .of our fellow colonists, that this measure will confer upon the community powers of the most useful character, and will afford us the means of urging our wants and interests with far more effect than at present upon both the Government and the New Zealand Company. These advantages would be cheaply purchased by some greater expenses than a well-selected Town Council is likely to incur. Nor must it be forgotten, that any rates which may be imposed upon the settlement will be employed in the most necessary works, from the want of which very great inconvenience is now experienced. We have said this only in order to guard ourselves against being supposed to participate in the sentiments or apprehensions of our correspondents. In our next number we shall probably take occasion to direct attention, in detail, to the benefits which we may anticipate from the existence of a municipal corporation in this place.
