COROMANDEL
We scarcely dare venture to give all that we have heard, during the afternoon of yesterday, concerning this gold field, and shall confine ourselves to such information as has come to us first-hand from those on whose veracity we can place implicit reliance. It would appear that on several of the claims on Driving Creek extraordinary finds have been made In Gibson's claim XI a minute was offered by MiGraham to be allowed to work it, and derisively refused, whilst the fortunate owners are said to havo sat coolly knocking off knobs of quartz and gold with their picks, and joking with the bystanders who were gathered around them! We were favoured with the perusal of a letter received yesterday by a gentleman of this town from his brother, who states, " During the short time I was looking on more than £IOO worth of gold was taken from this claim, and I believe beforo jhaweek is over they will have obtained hundred-
weights; I myself earned £6 yesterday in my own claim." Another, whose word is bevond doubt, stated he saw an empty porter cask and several sacks filled with quartz, which, from all appearance, would yield from twenty to thirty per cent, of gold;—this was waiting for machinery to crush it. Mr. Brackenbury's claim on Keren's reef has been again tested and again yielded satisfactory results. In Kcven's claim an extraordinarily rich vein was struck, and everybody is in high hopes and spirits. Unfortunately, the steamer brought no mail, so we arc unable to give the version which our own correspondent would most probably have sent. As it is, we give the best information which we can, and such as we have every reason to believe may be relied
