COROMANDEL.
[from OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] August 30th, 1862. Since writing my last we have had a great many new arrivals, and among others eighteen diggers direct from Otago by the clipper schooner Lombard, 260 tons burden. By this vessel we have also received the intelligence of a new and extensive gold-field having been discovered in Otago. This new rush will, in all probability, have a very beneficial effect on this goldfield, as it may be the means of staying the rush to this district till fine settled weather comes, and so prevent a great deal of disappointment and grumbling.
From the various reef-claims I hear of very great results having been obtained; and there seems to be not the slightest doubt in the minds of all hero as to the ultimate returns to be obtained from the quartzreefs when machinery for crushing the stone is erected. Several of the diggers are getting quite a large quantity of rich specimens, and daily adding to their stock of them.
