COROMANDEL.
(prom our correspondent.) r» • , August 18th. JJunng tho past week, tho weather has boen so very inclement, that all mining operations have been almost at a stand still. I hear of a very largo find having been made on one of the loaders which cross the Driving Creek ; according to one party's account, upwards of 4.300 worth was obtained on ono claim, last Friday and that others were picking up very rich specimens on the hill side, among tho dead grass and leaves. I can vouch for the correctness of tho first part of this statement, and it is quite propablo that the latter part may be correct too. At tho Kopoutauaki Creek, one party had obtained five ounces of fine gold, perfectly free from quartz, but owing to the great quantity of rain that has fallen, have been again compelled to desist till the return of more moderate weather. Though there has occurred but little to cause any excitement during tho week, still all seem to be in better spirits, and well satisfied with the future prospects of Coromandel; there can be little doubt but that it will prove a good summer diggings, and fine weather is anxiously looked for.
