FARMING AND GARDENING. Vegetables.—Earth up peas and beans that are well above ground, and make further sowings for succession. Sow rhubarb teed, in drills about 3 feet apart, and half an inch deep. Plant asparagus roots, in deep light soil, abundantly supplied with rich, thoroughly decayed manure. Sow spinach in well pulverized rich soil, in drills about eighteen inches apart. Sow carrot, parsnip, lettuce, radish, cabbage, and other seed. Sow celery teod, covering the seed as lightly as possible. Transplant cabbage, cauliflower, <Src. Sow onion seed, in drills from nine to twelve inches apart. Contine to plant potatoes. Fnutr.—This is the last month in which fruit trees can be planted wiih safety. Sow stones and pips of the various fruits. Graft fruit trees as soon as the buds on the stock begin to swell. Clean the blight off apple trees. Flowers.—Stir up the surface of the soil round all flowers in order to promote the free growth and blooming of the plants; prune, train, and tie climbing plant*. Sow annuals and plant flowering shrubs. Mow lawns, the shorter the grass is kept, the more thick and velvety it becomes.
