DUNEDIN LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Messrs. Driver, Maclean & Co. report:—Owing to the heavy rains and bad stite of the roads, we have had rather a short supply in the yards during the past week. Several lots of both cattle and sheep have been either detained on the road or turned back, consequently we are quite out of good beef or mutton. We shall, however, have a prime lot of cattle and sheep in on Monday and Tuesday. Fat Cattle.—The supply during the week having been confined to a very inferior mob of ship cattle, anything like prime stock is very scarce, and fully up to last week's quotations, say—best bullocks, £'24 to £2H; middling do, £'ls to £'18; inferior do, £'lo to£'l4; best cows, £lfl to£'22; middling do, £'l3 to £'18; inferior do, £'lo to £l2. Fat Calves.—None in, and wanted at from £'3 10s to £'s. Stork Cattle.—Good lots continue scarce, and much inquired after. We have effected sales of small lots, near town, at £lO to £l2. Large lots of good mixed cattle may be quoted at £'lo to £'ll 10s. Dairy Cows and Working Bullocks.—3re very saleable at high prices, if quiet and in good condition; very few offering. Fat Shesp.—Several lots of wethers sold, and deliverable during the week, have been prevented from coming to hand (for reasons above named ;) our market is therefore quite bare. Small lots of fair quality would realize 355. per head ; large do, say 325. to 32*. 6d. Stork Shkep.—We have many inquiries for large framed wethers and young ewes, but transactions will bs limited uutil after shearing. Station Property.—We hear of several buyers in the market for runs, either with or without stock. Horses.—We have very little change to note. Good hacks and draught mares are 111 demand at paying prices. We shall offer in a day or two a fresh lot, per "Cosmopolite," from Hobart Town.— Otago Timet, Aug. 2.
