Election. —The election of a Member to represent the Suburbs of the City of Auckland in tne Provincial Council, in the room of W. P. Porter, Esq., resigned, took place on Thursday at noon. The usual formalities having been observed, and the writ having been duly recited by Thomas Beckham, Esq., the Returning Officer, Mr. William Hay proposed, and Mr. James Robertson seconded the nomination rjf the only candidate, Frederick Whitaker, Esq., who, being a fit and proper person, was forthwith declared to be the duly returned representative for the Suburbs. Mr. Whitaker briefly returned thanks, and a vote of thanks having also been awarded to the Returning Officer, the meeting dissolved.
