The New-Zealander.

AUCKLAND, SATURDAY, OCT. 7, 1854.

lie just and fear nut: Let all the endi thou aim'»t at, be thy Country*!, 1 hy GoD'e. and Truth'*.

By the Overland Mail, which arrived yesterday, we have received only a single Wellington paper—the Independent of the 2nd ult. It contains no local news of any interest. We have also the Taranaki Herald of the 13th and the 20th ult. His Honour the Superintendent had arrived at New Plymouth on the sth ult., overland from Kawhk. Mr. McLean, who remained in the Schooner Ann, did not arrive until the 17th. The Superintendent had issued a proclamation appointing the second Session of the Provincial Council to commence on the 2nd of this month (Monday last). In another proclamation his Honour appointed Thursday the 14th ult. to be observed throughout the Province as a Fast Day on account of the War, according to his Excellency's proclamation of August Bth. Pirika, one of the wounded in the late native affray at the Bell Block, had died in the Colonial Hospital, being the seventh death resulting from that sad affair. The Herald of the 20th has the following : We understand that when His Honour the Sujienntpndent left Auokland, the Representatives of this Province were pledged, should an opportnnitj off,!r t *» bring forward a measure for extending the boundary of the Province to Kawhia, an arrangement that would most readily meet the difficulty at present experienced from the want of|laud, and would further furnish a good port for the settlement. We believe that there it every rtason for hoping, should this object be attained, that the small long-shore steamer now immediately expected at Nelson, might, by an arrangement with the Government of that Province, be made available for the business of both settlements.
