DIED.
On Thursday, September 21st, at ten o’clock, p.m., at the residence of his l’athcr-in-law, Mr. Win. Gorrie, Pitt-street, Auckland, Mr. Wellesiey Hughes, merchant, aged 36. Friends arc respectfully informed that the remains of the deceased will be conveyed to the place of interment to-morrow (Sunday), at four o’clock, p.m. It is with a regret, in which we arc sure our fellow-citizens very generally participate, that we record the death of Mr. Hughes. He was one of the earliest settlers in Auckland, and manfully bore his share in the vicissitudes of the settlement, which have issued in its present prosperity. Throughout his career he maintained an unblemished reputation for steadiness, industry, and commercial integrity, and was always found ready to co-operate, both by His pecuniary aid and his personal exertions, in every undertaking of public usefulness or philanthropy. His sorrowing widow and friends have all the consolation that can be derived from an assurance that tiie bereavement which they mourn is lamented also by very many of the community, and lamented the most by those who knew Mr. Hughes the best.
