SiKj—'J’he letter of Mr. Fitzgerald to the Editor of the’ Southern Crons, which appears in that paper this morning, calls imperatively tor some notice by me. ~ , , I3ut in order effectually to dispose of tint lion, gentleman’s representation of some talk between himself and me, which took place when negociations were on foot between the Attorney-General and Mr. Clifford with regard to the composition of a first Responsible Ministry, it will be necessary for me to look over some correspondence relating to that subject, perhaps to copy part of it, and certainly to cony or make extracts from an old letter of Mr. Fitzgerald’s, which was produced by me on that occasion as one ground of my total want of confidence in him as the intended 1 nine Minister. , , . , , And I must also write on the subject at some length. To do all this in time for your publication of to-morrow, would be impossible. At present, therefore, I can only request that you will do me the favour to reserve space m nox* Saturday’* New Zealander hr a disclosure of the exact truth, so far as Mr. Fitzgerald is concerned, with regard to my part in the negociations which made him a Prime Minister. 1 remain, Sir, Your obedient servant, E.
