ES T A TES ON THE THAMES. I Extract from “Auckland and its Neighbourhood” —(a work of which large editions have been sold in London, and in the neighbouring Colonics, and of acknowledged truthfulness of detail): — “A few miles still further to the Eastward, you reach the Southern extremity of the Gulf bounded by the Plain, or Valley or the Thames. This Plain is upwards of sixty miles in length, by about sixteen or twenty miles in breadth ; and is watered throughout its whole extent by two winding rivers —“ The Thames” and “ the Phtko.” Both Rivcis are navigable for barges or Small Steamers for a distance of 50 miles at least, and are accessible from Auckland b}'- canoes or open boats in fine weather. With its numerous harbours, estuaries, rivers, islands, forests, and plains, the Gulf of the Thames comprises a commercial world in miniature.” “ Into this river wo entered, and within three miles found the water perfectly fresh ; we proceeded up the river fourteen miles. The river at this height is as broad as the Thames at Greenwich ; it has water enough for vessels of more than the middle size, and a bottom of mud so soft that nothing coni I take damage by running ashore.”' —Captain Cook'. The only descript’on which it is necessary or useful publicly to advertise of such a property as this may be given in a few lines, upon a consideration of which, and of the particulars which may be learnt on application, it will readily be seen that, to a party with adequate Capital, one of the most advantageously situated Estates in the Colony, and one on which a man of enterprise and energy could not fail to realise a large fortune for his family, is now to be acquired.
