PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN AUCKLAND.
Amongst the recent arrivals from England, we have to record that of the Rev. Mr. Macky, of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, who arrived in the Cashmere. Although not a member of the Free Church of Scotland, yet we understand, is likely, as soon soon as circumstances will admit, to he a Co-Prcshyter of the Rev. Mr. Bruce. He has repeatedly preached in the Presbyterian Church in Auckland, and has also been introduced by Mr. Bruce to the people of Otahuhu and Tamaki, among whom in the first place, lie is likely to labour. By all he has been cordially received, as all have felt for some time tho necessity of more pastoral superintendence, particularly in the country districts. In connection with this event, it is proper to state, that at a congregational meeting of the Church at Auckland, held before the arrival of the Cashmere, it was resolved to make enquiry and to report as to what may appear to he the host means to meet the wants of the country districts, both as regards pastoral superintendence and education for the young. When this report is given in, it is expected that immediate action will he taken, as far as tho circumstances of the Church will allow. To what extent that may he, will of course depend upon the voice of the congregation ; hut seeing that the Church is now entirely free from debt, having paid off upwards of £I,OOO during the past year,—leaving besides a balance in the treasurer’s hands of upwards of £.‘300, —it is hoped that the principle which was recognised at the meeting, of extending the operations of the Church, will be carried out in a liberal spirit.
