ADDRESS TO THE BISHOP OF NEW ZEALAND.
On Wednesday, the 21st instant, the foI~ fowing Address from the Clergy and Laity of the Church of England was presented to the Bishop, on the occasion of his intended departure for England, in the School-room of St Paul's, where a large and respectable meeting, including many of other denominations, had assembled for the occasion : TO THE LOUD BISHOP OF NEW ZEALAND. Auckland, Christmas, 1853. Mt Lord, — It is the wish of such of your Lordship's Clergy as are now in this neighbourhood, and the undersigned Lay Members of the Church of England, to address you with every feeling of respect and allection on the occasion of your approaching visit to England, and to express their hearty prayers that Almighty God will grant you, and those that journey with you, a favourable voyage, and the successful attainment of the objects you have mentioned in your pastoral letter, and a speedy and a prosperous return to your diocese. We truly feel that the same sense of duty that has marked Lordship's unwearied labours in your diocese, now urges you to return to England, in the hope of being enabled hereafter to carry out more effectually your plans for its welfare. And with a view to this most desirable end we rejoice in your Lordship's assurance that your heart is fixed in this country and with this people, a feeling we believe truly reciprocated on their part by your Clergy and Laity alike, We are your Lordship's attached and faithful servants, &c. [Signed by 16 clergymen and about 200 laymen.] His Lordship replied with much feeling, and in language of affectionate earnestness, after which the meeting separated.
