A Government Gazeltee was issued yesterday, of which -a considerable portion is occupied by an able and Interesting paper entitled “Observations on the Climate of the North Island of New Zealand,” from the pen ofDr. Thomson of the 58th regiment. We hope in a future number loltransfer this valuabledocumcnt to our columns. The Governor expresses his deep regret in announcing the death of Sir Everard Home, and directs the publication of an extract from that lamented officer’s will, con- " taining a list of valuable books which Sir Everard bequeathed to His Excellency to be taken as part of a Public Library which he trusted would be established atthe seat of Government in New Zealand. The bequest is indeed a touching memorial of the interest fell to the last by Sir Everard in the welfare of these Islands. The Colonial Treasnrer’s Returns of Receipts and Expenditure for the Quarter ending Sapt. 50, shows the continued progress of this district. The Ordinary Revenue at Auckland inthaiQuarter wasß,llo/. I Is 7d., being nearly 3,000/ more than in the corresponding quarter of last year; while thoCrown Lands Revenue, which in Sept., 1834, was L 527/. 15.2 d., amounted in Sept. 1853 to was 6,916/. Os. Ud., - an increase no doubt mainly attributable to the beneficial operation of Sir George Grey’s Cheap Land Regulations. The Gazette also contains the RegistrarGeneral’s Quarterly Return of Births, Deaths, and Mrrriages. We may notice here also a Provincial Government Gazette published on Tuesday last, hi addition to a List of Accepted Tenders, and invitations for Tenders for Firewood, Hay, Maize, and Bran, Ironmongery, Medicines, and Washing, and some other notices, it contained a Return of the Sale of Crown Lands (exclusive of Sales by Auction) b .v the Surveyor General, during the month of October last. The amount realized by the sale of Crown Lands selected after Auction was 531/. 17s. 6d.; .Ditto by .Lands under New Regulations, 1,754/. Us. OrS.; making a lota! of 2;30C/. Bs. 6d. for the month.
