Hen,ld Office, Friday Evening, September 23. The market has, during the past week, been well supported, and in some kinds of goods a considerable advance established. Orders are now corning in freely from the country, which together with our steady town trade, cannot fail to make a sensible impression on our heavy stocks, and at once indnee the met chants to feel more at ease. Tea may now be quoted at 5/. to 5/. ss, for fine congous, and bl. ss, to 51. 10s. for hysonskius. Large parcels have changed hands at the advanced rates, and the speculators are calculating upon further improvement. Bottled beer is in demand at higher prices, and the operations during the last few days have been mo-e extensive. Favourite brands bring 12s. to 135., and second class about 11s. Brandy is firm at 13s. for Martell's; inferior qualities are n )t so saleable. Rum is bringing improved rates'? W. 1,. 35 o.p. 4s. 6d.,and E. 1., ditto, about 2s. IGd. Cigars are saleable at a considerable advance. Manila, No. 2, are fetching 755., and No. 3 aqout GOs. Flour is held for higher prices, and it is not improbable that the millers will this day give their decree as against the consumer. In the meantime the recognised rates are 25/. for firsts, and 23/. for seconds. Beer, wines, spirits, and cigars, were sold by Mr. Dean on Wednesday last. There was a large buying company present, an 1 the competinon was very spirited. The following were the prices realised, viz.; Byass’ bottled ale and porter, 12s. 7d.; Evans’s ditto, 11s,; Porter’s ditto, 12s, 5d.; Tennant’s ditto, 10s. 10d.; large parcel mixed favourite brands, 11s. Gd; English ale, 80s. 82s. 6d.; champagne, 3Ss. to 415.; Moet's ditto, 40s. to 425.; fine capsuled sherry, 225. ; port in wood, Gs. Gd.; inferior ditto, 4s. 9d.; Old Tom, in cases, 255.; gin, 13 to 14 u.p., 20s ; half cases ditto. 19s. Gd.: anchor brand, cases, 18s. to 19s. 6. quarter casks, 4s. 3d.; Irish whiskey, 9 o.p. hogsheads and quarter casks, 3s 9d. ; brandy, in case, 255. to 255. 3d. pale ditto, hogsheads, Bs. 9d.; Martell’s ditto, 12s. 10il. to 135.; and No. 2 cigars. 755. The following important properties were sold by Mr. Mort on Wednesday last, viz.;— Five thousand cattle, with the stations, on the Liverpool Plains, known as Drilldool, Cuhbaroo, South Oriel, and Bullawara, at 2/. ICs. Cd. per head. The cattle were described to be prime, of the 1.8.0. brand and the stations celebrated for their fattening properties. The dwelling-house and stores in Harrington-street, belonging to and at present in the occupation of Messrs Buyers and Learmonth, for 3500/. The capacious residence and three-floored stores, situated on the west side of Harrington-street, adjoining the premises of .Messrs. Elbsworth and Co., for 3600 Z. A waterside allotment at Newcas le, Hunter River, having a frontage of about 74 feet to Beach-street, with a depth of about 122 leet, and containing in all 33 perches, for 1050/. The 21,000 sheep, with the stations, at Wellington, were put up, and a bidding of Ids. obtained, but the proprietors refused to sell at that price. The small tenements that have been offered latterly have in most cases failed to secure purchasers. The dullness is attributed to the circumstances of so many families leaving for the diggings. Some China goods, the importation of Messrs. Bogue were sold yesterday by Mr. Muriel, at his Rooms. The silk goods and shawls suffered a heavy reduction, but the matting add straw bats realised very remunerative rates : 6-4 brought 2s. 2d. ; 5-4, Is. 9d. ; and yard wide Is. 6|d. There have been several large sales of damage I and sound goods during the week. The sound have, in most instances, realized rates fully equal to our former quotations. The anival for the week, exclusive of our regular traders, are four ships and a barque from London ; a ship from Liverpool; barque from Plymouth; brig from the South S t a Islands : and a barque fiom Hamburgh,
