Dear Sir, — On approaching the end of our voyage, wa, the chief cabin passengers, beg to express to you our sincere thanks for the kind attention you have shown us, and to assure you of our entire satisfaction with the ship itself and with those arrangements on board, of which you have had the disposal. Owing to great mismanagement, to the want of just consideration for the reasonable comfort of the passengers, in a word to the manner in which Messrs. Willis and Co. have met their contract with us, the causes of discontent have been numerous, and the expression of justifiable dissatisfaction has been rife among us. But over these circumstances you had no control. We have however much pleasure in testifying to your willingness to listen to our complaints, and, to the utmost of your power, to remedy our annoyances. In token of our gratitude for your recent kindness, and of our good wishes for your future prosperity, wo beg your acceptance of a purse containing twenty-five guineas, requesting you to procure for yourself a gold watch, bearing the inscription, “ Presented to J. Foster, Esq., by his chief cabin passengers to New Zealand, per ship Joseph Fletcher, 1053.” We have only to add in taking leave of you that we shall be always glad to welcome you to our adopted country’, and vve cordially subscribe ourselves, Yours very sincerely, W. Willis and Co., which, when duly represented to them, I feel confident in asserting they will so act, as to prevent a repetition of such annoyances on a future occasion.
