ELECTION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF CANTERBURY.

Bv private courtesy we have received a copy of the Lyttelton Times , of the 23rd of July, which contains a report of the election of Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury. There were three candidates,—James Edward Fitzgerald, Esq., Colonel Campbell, and Henry John Tancred, Esq. The Nomina* lion look place on the 18th of July,—the polling on the 20lh. At Lyttelton, Colonel Campbell had a small majority, and at Akaroa, a very large one; but the votes at Christchurch were principally in favour of his competitors, and finally Mr. Fitzgerald was declared the successful candidate. The total numbers were, Fitzgerald 135 Campbell ..... 9-1 Tancred . ... 1 89.
