ON Wednesday evening, a Deputation, on behalf of the Catholic Community of Auckland, consisting of Messrs. Lynch, O’Brien, Lorigau, Crane, Dignao, Coolahan, and Boylan, waited on board the Kestrel , upon the Rev. T. O’Rourke, a passenger by that vessel, with a purse containing Fifty Sovereigns, and the following address: Reverend and Dear Sie,-< Having learned with surprise and regret of your immediate departure from amongst us, we cannot permit it without giving expression to our (eelings of deep sorrow, at what we can view in no other light than a bereavement to the Catholic community of Auckland. Sympathizing with you in your impaired health, we fervently trust that change of scene and climate may so far restore you as to enable you once more to return amongst us; —to that we fondly and anxiously look forward. In the meantime our prayers and best wishes accompany you on your voyage. We beg your acceptance of this purse as a slight testimony of our love and esteem; the fact of your being about to sail this evening having been made known to us only within these few hours, must be an apology for the smallness aud inadequacy of the gift*. We are, Reverend and Dear Sir, iv faithfully yours, Henry Cooper B. McDonald P. Whelan A. Oliver Thomas Fagan J. Scott F. Gallagher Christopher Hans D. Sheehan Mrs. Sheehan John McLaughlin. I accept this purse, not with the slightest regard to its intrinsic value, but as a token that my labours, slight as they were, have not been unappreciated.
