INTRODUCTION OF SALMON AND TROUT TO OUR RIVERS.
To the Editor of the Nnvv-Z inlander. Silt, —I would ere now have recpnsted you to bring this subject before your readers, but you l ave been so pressed on by more important mat - t< rs,
Knowing that everything tending to make orr splendid country more attractive will meet with your valuable assistance, I would suggest—now that we are likely soon to have Steam Communication with Europe and America—that a subscription list be opened to raise a sum sufficient to tempt Captains of steamers and others to endeavour to bring Salmon and Trout alive to Auckland. I have no doubt we could find 100 Gentlemen in the country who would cheerfully give £1 each, —say £IOO to be paid to the person who would deliver one dozen of Salmon, and one dozen Trout alive, what a great attraction it would be to many—[ would give £1 or X‘2 myself. Respectfully yours. H. R. R. August 18, 1853.
