Representation of the City. —An influential meeting of ihe electors of the City of London was field on Thursday, May o, when it was unanimously resolvx>d that Huron Lionel Rothschild should not be called upon to resign bis seat, notwithstanding the unfavourable decision in tbe House of Lords last week. A committee was formed, to adopt such measures as they may th nlc fit to insure tbe ultimate satisfactory solution of the Jewish Disabilities question, by placing Baron Rothschild in the seat to which the constituency of the city of Loudon have repeatedly elected him. A Novel Candle-Lamp. —Amongst new articles recently patented is a candle-lamp of a very novel character. This 1 nip has a dial or clock face, and, as the candle burns, the hands mark tbe hours and minutes correctly, and a hammer strikes tbe time. Asachambprligbt for a sick-room, it marks tbe time, and can be set to strike at any give periods, when the patient requires attention. As a night light, it marks the lime on a transparent dial, and rings an alarum at any stated period, and, in ten minutes afterwards extinguishes the candle, or will continue to strike every second until the party gets out of bed and stops it; and, if a very heavy sleeper require to be roused, it will fire off* percussion tap. As » table-lamp, it marks tbe time and strikes the hours, and has a regulator and index, by which may he ascertained the amount of light and economy of consumption of tbe various candles of diderent make ».
