PROVINCIAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS.

In our last number \vc gave an outline of the proceedings on Tuesday at the nomination of candidates to represent the City of Auckland, the Suburbs of Auckland, and the Northern Division, respectively, in the Provincial Council. On Wednesday the polling for the City and Suburbs took place. During the first hour or two it progressed but slowly, few votes being recorded ; but subsequently it became more animated, and continued so till the close of the poll at four o'clock. At that hour, a very large assemblagewascongrogated in front of the hustings, awaiting the official announcement of theresuits. About half-past four, the Returning Officer made the formal declaration of the poll as follows: CITY OF AUCKLAND. Boylan, Hartley, Mitchell, J. O'Neill, Derrom, and O'Brien, were declared duly elected to represent the Cily of Auckland in the Provincial Council, the following was the announcement of the final slate of the poll for the SUBURBS OF AUCKLAND. Porter, Council, Bain, and Gilfillan, were accordingly declared duly elected !o represent the Suburbs in the Provincial Council. The newly-elected Members,? and the un* successful candidates aiso, severally addressed the assembly, thanking their respective friends for the support they had received.

The Nominalion~of Candidates for the Provincial Council took place at the Hustings at Gnehunga on Thursday. The following were the Candidates proposed for the Pensioner Settlements .---. Mr. F. C. Lewis, proposed by Sergt. Barry and Mr. Mclnlyrc. ■ Mr. C. J. Taylor proposed by Messrs. J. Keating and H.McManiis. Mr.'Joseph Brennan, proposed by Mr. diaries Moore and Sergeant seary. Mr. J. Hall, proposed by Sergeant McAnulty and' Mr. G. Barifelt Mr. J*. White, proposed by Messrs. 1. Palcy and W. Frazer. _ ■ Cisptain Powditch, proposed by Messrs. P. King and J. Bates. Williamson, proposed by Sergeant Murphy and Mr. Murdoch. Each of tlic candidates briefly addressed tiie electors present after which the Returning Officer (J. J. Svmonds, Esq-), called for a show of hands, which was declared to by in favor of Messrs. Lewis, Brennan, Powditch, and Williamson. A poll was then demanded by Mr. White, which was announced to take place the following day. Southern Division. Mr. P. J. Bogan, proposed by Messrs. F. C. Lewis and P. Morton. Mr. J. Macky, proposed by Messrs. T. Paton and G. Kells. Mr. W. Buckland, proposed by Messrs. W. Powditch and J. Crispe. Mr. W. Goodfcllow, proposed by Mr. 11. W. Clarke, and \h\ McGanran. Mr. W. I. Taylor, proposed by Messrs. J. Kerr and J. Goland. Mr, T. Henry, proposed by Major Greenwood and Mr. J. Stvak. Mr. J. Newman, proposed by Messrs. T. C. Williams and E. Maclean. Mr. J. Powditch and Major Greenwood. the Candidates brieily addressed the meeting in the order in which they were proposed; after which a shew of hands v>as taken, according to form, and declared to be in favor of Messrs. Hogan, Buckland, Henry, and Di I worth. A poll was then demanded by Mr. Macky, which will take place on [ho Ist of August. The polling for the Pensioner Settlements took place yesterday. Lewis, Brennan, Powditch, and Williamson.
