FELLOW ELECTORS,—Being made aware that my name has been honourably mentioned at the Meetings lately held bv many of you, to name persons in whom you can confide to represent your interests in the forthcoming Councils, and which expressions areuow supported by a Requisition which has been handed to me, I beg leave thus publicly to acquaint you, that I respond to your request, with sincere and heartfelt thanks. From the many occasions on which you have so honoured my name, no proper course has been left to rnc but that of carefully discharging the duties in whatever station your suffrages may place me. And I feel it right to assure you, that being freed from any local interests of my own. while it will be my duly to promote the general welfare of the Province, the peculiar interests of yourselves and each of your Villages, will obtain my most especial attention. Fellow Colonists,—l thank you for the terms in which you have been pleased to convey your request to me to allow myself to be put in nomination as a Candidate for one of the four seals to which the representatives of your settlements will be entitled in the first Council of tbe Province of Auckland. I am fully alive to the onerous nature of the duties which will belong to a seat in that Council, if faithfully discharged, and in complying with your wish I feel that, should 1 be elected, however little to your satisfaction or my own those duties might be fulfilled by me, they should be undertaken with a firm delerrnination on. my part to subordinate all private interests to my public duties, and to spare no effort in aiding my colleagues to obtain whatever measures might be considered most conducive to the welfare of the Province; keeping in view at the same lime whatever would tend to the interests of your own communities in particular. A a Meeting of the Committee of the Operative and Working Classes of Auckland, held ai the “While Hart Hotel” this evening, it was unanimously resolved that one Candidate only he proposed by them to represent them in Hie Provincial Council, and that Mr. James Derrom be. the said Candidate.
