The New-Zealander.

AUCKLAND, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1, 1853.

Be just and fear not: Let nil the ends thou aim’st at, tic thy Country's, Thy God’s, and Truth’s.

A Government Gazette was issued yesterday. It contains oilicial notifications from the Returning Ofliccrs at Auckland and Onchunga, respectively, appointing the 20th of this month (June) for the nomination of Superintendent of the Province, and the 50th for the Polling. Also a notice from the Colonial Secretary declaring certain additional Polling Places, amongst which we observe the Villages of Ifowick, Otahuhu, and Panmure added to Onehunga for the Pensioner Selllemcnts. These announcements will be found in other parts of our present issue. We also copy a Proclamation by the Governor-in-Chicf appointing Justices of the Peace for the Province of Auckland. This differs from the List which, some lime since we transferred from the List published at Wellington, in having four names of Justices which were accidentally omitted then, now restored: and ten altogether now names added. The names omitted were those of Messrs. Joseph Hargreaves, J. W. Bain, W. J. Taylor, and J. If. Smith, which were left out, as we have said, wholly through some accidental oversight in the preparation of that List, and arc now, of course, introduced in their proper places. The names added are those of Messrs. Charles Bridget!, (Assistant Commissary General), Arch.Clark, (late Mayor of Auckland), Thomas Williams, Charles J. Taylor, ThomasS. Forsailh, James Farmer, M. G. Nixon, William Mason, Thomas Baton, and William Powditch. Several Returns are published shewing the Population, Acres in Cultivation, Stock, etc., in the several Settlements of New Zealand, taken from the general Census Returns of 1851. We shall transfer these to our columns on another day, till which time we postpone some remarks that they appear to call for.

The last notification in the Gazette relates to the new and valuable scheme of assisted emigration to which we have recently more than once invited attention ; and includes the form of bond to be entered into by parties here wishing to have their friends brought out at the reduced rale proposed by the Government.
