Empire office, Thursdav Evening. The few marketable goods recently to hand, or hangingl upon the market, have been eagerly taken, and, in some instances passed through several bauds, have been vended at profits perfectly startling in amount. Single invoices have yielded successive profits—in each case a little fortune to be told by thousands—in reaching the consumer. Some extensive sales of foreign manufactures, during the present week, have been remarkable for the enormous prices realized. Articles of luxury, which two years ago would hardly have fou- d a purchaser, now created a competition which raised them to an advance of 1000 and even 2000 per cent on their coat in the foreign market, The arrivals during the past eight days have been very few-, excepting traders from colon al ports; one ship from Manila, and two from aht'ornia. -The number of vessel from London and Liverpool, now overdue, is sufficient, howev r, to justify an opinion, that the ifnpon market wi 1 be sensibly relieved by immediate important arrivals. On the 25tli in>t , Mr. Newton sold the cargo of, the Vovageur, from Manila, comprising 6106 hags sundried Pampanga sugar, and 3029 bags superior I aul, with moderate shipments of coff e, patent cordage champagne, cigars, arrow root, and guava jelly. 'I he sale, which occupied six In ur* ai d a half, was attended by many influential members ot the mercantile communiiv. We give the price realised : Pampa' ga sugar, £l9 7s. 6d.; £2O 2s. 6d.; .£'2l. Taal. £l9 IDs. to £ 20 2s. 6d. Coffee, (Manila) Is. to Is. Jd. per lb. Patent cordage, 131s to 1335. perewt. Champagne, 36s per dozen Ciga e, No 2, 82s. 6d.; No. 3, 70s. Arrowroot, s}d. to 5-Jd. per lb. Guava jelly, 2s, per lb. On the same day Mr. Newton also sold a parcel of fine teas as under: — 100 boxes Orange Pekoe, 355. 400 ditto Hysonkm, 225, 50 chests and 100 half chests Congou 102s. 6d. 600 half chests ditto (inferior), 225. This sale wa* supplemented by various other parcels of goods, including some British, all ot which met wrh purchasers at good prices. Ihe amount of the day’s sales exceeded £20,000. Some parcels of produce, in same bands, went off at following prices : Bmn, 3s. 2d. per bushel. Maize, 13s. IU. to 14s, Id. Barley, 9s. 6d. Bathurst cheese, per lb.
