We are informed that a special meeting of the Operatives, Election Committee was held at the Osprey Inn on Saturday, to receive a packet which had been forwarded there addressed “To the Chairman and Committee appointed to select from the Operative and Labouring Classes, members to sit in the Provincial Council of Auckland. —With Sir George Grey’s compliments.” The contents proved to be a Copy of the New Zealand Constitution Act, together with Correspondence between the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and the Governor-in-Chiel of New Zealand, in explanation thereof. r lhis mark of attention on the part of His Excellency appears to have been highly appreciated by the Committee, who immediately resolved that a reply should bo forwarded expressing their thanks for it. Ihe following is a copy: — Auckland, April 50th, 1855. “ Sir, —lam directed by IheCommiltec of the Operative and Labouring Classes to acknowledge the receipt of the New Zealand Constitution Act; Ac., Ac., which the Committee conclude has been sent for their (the members) information and guidance. And at the same time to express their unanimous thanks for your Excellency’s consisideration and kindness.
