Prices ore a little lower than our last quotations : Wethers, first quality, from 13s. to 15s. ; second quality, 10s. to 125.; Lambs, 10s; Store Sheep, about 10s. Houses. —Business in this market has been brisk during the week, and the supply good. Horses and lio-ht drays are in great demand for the Ballarat diggings. Several mobs of borses, from the Sydney and Maneroo districts, have been disposed of at good prices. Hacks range from 13 to £3O; Light Draught Horses, about £4O; Heavy Draught Horses, about £6O. Light Drays, with horses, have sold for from £SO to £75. The animation in our market, visible for some time past, has been equally preceptible since our last Monday's issue. Several arrivals are again reported, but with light cargoes of merchandise for our port. There is no diminution of the number of immigrants, and thus the consumption keeps pace with the goods brought forward for sale preventing a glut and keeping prices up to their recent rates. The demand for oilmen’s stores is very great. Pickles have brought through the week, prices varying from 175.3d. per dozen to 21s. per dozen pints ; i lb. mustards appear scarce from the enquiries made for them; all kinds of dried fish wanted ; crushed sugar and English loaf have fully maintained their late value; a small parcel even brought higher rates, say, lo|d. per lb. ; tartaric acid, cream tartar, carbonate soda, sell freely, although not quite so high as three months ago. Teas have been sold at about the same prices as for some time past. The trade have only purchased sparingly, as also of sugars, which have brought only moderateprices at the late sales. Cigars have been brought forward in considerable quantities, and prices gave way at the early part of the week. The intelligence brought by Sydney mail caused holders to be less ready to quit stock, and prices are again firmer. Tobacco is quiet. Several enquiries have been made for linseed oil; a good deal of painting is going forward ; turpentine, paints, and such goods, with the large consumption we now have, will probably be scarce, unless arrivals should come to hand.
The activity observed in the ironmongery business still continues, and there is a good demand for articles in that branch of trade.
Wines—a good deal doing in the bottle department, and at prices above quotations a year ago ; ports and sherries are rt adily taken, especially of superior quality; Champagne realised, by public sale, 355, to 425. per dozen quarts. There is also some demand for light wines.
Beer and porter —scarcely any in the market, and a large parcel would obtain extreme prices; ale, a few lots here, but not of any extent; the demand is great, and the consumption very large; bottled beers command good prices. Spirits fluctuate, and brandies have been purchased at 10s. Gd. upwards this week ; the English news gives a rise on this article in London ; case brandy is taken on high rates; Geneva still biings 22s 1 . to 245. per case, of 4 gallons ; Old Tom in demand. Flour may be quoted about £*2 l per ton, and dull of sale; cheese, English, asked for; butter, bacon, &c., are selling on fair terms, and with a good demand.
