Mr. A. W. Hansard has received from the Waiau diggings a lot containing a nugget of gold and quartz weighing 3 oz. 10 dwt£., a smaller piece of the same character. Weighing I oz. 12grs., and some dust which evidently is richly auriferous. It was obtained by two diggers of Mr. Scollick's party in one day, in a crevice on the bed-rock at the Waiau ; but the Hoods prevented their following the promising hi-

tl Ration further for the present. The largo nugget has, we understand, been sold by MrTllausard for SI. s s. Od, — the principle on which the price was estimated being that it was half gold and half quartz, and the gold rated ;uOf)s. per ounce. It is staled in a letter from Coromandel, dated the 12th instant, which we have seen, —‘‘All the Prospectors arc of opinion that there is a heavy deposit of gold somewhere near, and arc very busy looking for it.
