By the Overland Mail which arrived on Saturday, we have intelligence of the arrival at Wellington of the True Briton, troop ship. She was to sail for Auckland early in this month, and is now hourly expected. The following notice of her arrival is from the Wellington Independent, Dec. 22. December 18, ship, True Briton, 685 tons, Norris, from London. Passengers—Mr. Weld, Hon. B. Stapleton, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, and servant, Mr. Riddell, Mr. Knight, Captain and Mrs. Carter, and two children, Mr. J. Holland, Mr. Holland, Mr. W. Jones, Mr. Wilkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Curruthers, and five children, Mr.' Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. H. Jones, and two servants, Captain Petley, Lieutenants Witherington and Shipley, with a detachment of about 90 rank and file 58th Regt.; Lieut. Priestley, Ensigns Buck and Wemys, and a detachment of 84 rank and file, 14 women, and 13 children, 65th Regt., Staff Assistant Surgeon Cogan. The ship True Briton, 685 tons, Captain 11. W. Norris, with troops and passengeis on board, from London, arrived in port on Saturday morning last, the 18th inst. She left Deal on the 15th Aug. having on the day* previous shipped the troops and part of the passengers. She afterwards put into Spit-head, where she remained about 12 hours. It was not, however, until the 20th Aug., having met with foul winds in the channel, that she took her sight of departure off Land's End. She came here south about. The passage throughout is described as having been a very pleasant one, with the exception of two very heavy gales of wind which she encountered, one off the Cape and the other off the Islands of St. Paul's and Amsterdam. Two deaths and one birth occurred on board during the passage out—one of the men of the 58th having died off the Kai Koras, and a child belonging to a private of the 65th off the Snares. The wife of a private of the Goth was confined on board. About 2 o'clock on Saturday being three or four hours after her arrival here, she landed 84 men. 14 women, and 13 children belonging to the 65th Regt., under the command of Lieut. Priestly, and Ensigns Buck and Wemyss. The landing of such a number created no little excitement on the beach; and the men, alter the calling of the muster roll, and after having fallen into rank, were marched off into barracks, preceded by the band of the Regt., playing some very lively airs. She also landed here eight cabin and nine steerage passengers. A detachment of the 58th, under the command of Captain J. E. Petley, will proceed on to Auckland by the True Briton. On her passage out, the True Briton spoke the following vessels:—the ship Monarch, outward bound to. Calcutta, in lat. 40J ° N., Long 17 ° W.; the Kohi Noor, lat. 40£ S., long. 71J E., and the barque Orestes in lat. 42£ ° S., long. 127 ° 31' E., out 101 clays; both bound for Port Phillip. The Midlothian arrived' in the Downs on the 7th August, and the Cashmere also about the same time. The latter vessel was immediately laid on by Messrs. Wdlis and Co., for this port direct, and was expected to sail about the firbt or second week in September.
