Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 21st January, 1853. Intelligence having been received of the irreparable loss the Wation has sustained by the death of His Caacs the DtntE OP WIBILINCTOVi His Excellency the »leutenanfe*Oovernor has directed that, as a mark of respect to the Illustrious Dead, the flags at Government House and Brltomart Barracks shall be hoisted halfmast high, to-morrow, from eight o'clock, a.m., till sunset; and that, on the same day, commencing at noon, sixty-five minute guns shall be fired from the Port; sixty-five being the number of years which were devoted by His Grace to the service of his country.
