THE CHUSAN'S MAILS.

The Mails made up at the Post Office, yesterday, for conveyance by tbe Cbusan we?e 51 in number, containing 5361 letters and 3873 newspapers. The following figures, showing the number of letters and newspapers via Marseilles and vja Southampton respectively, and tbe total number for other ports, have been furnished by tbe Post Office authorities :—

These figures show that out of the 3873 newspapers poo^d by tbe Chusan, 2111 were for colonial and foreign ports, leaving only 1762 for the United King(l >ri —a fact which, we think, will crea'e some Burpiiße i.. Mip public mind, Of the 5361 letters only 1555 vi'i'ie for colonial and foreign ports, leaving 3706 for the mother country. The number of home letters via Southampton was nearly 50 per cent, in excess of the number via Marseilles; and the newspapers by the former route exceeded the number sent through France ia a slightly advanced ratio. It will be noticed with come curiosity and interest that the 1555 letters seat to various ports other than those of the United Kingdom were distributed through not fewer than 31 mails.
