TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF AUCKLAND. f^i ENTLEMEN,— Accept my grateful vX thanks for the honour you have done me in placing me at the head of the poll as one of your representatives in the forthcoming Provincial Council. The position you have thus been pleased to assign me, I, all along fell confident I should occupy ;— not, however, because of any merely personal desert ; but solely because of a long, arduous, and anxious devotion to the cause of the Colony, in which I have spared neither pains nor expense. Your generous recognition of my exertions in the maintenance of the public rights —in the advocacy of Colonial independence — is at once the truest test of your appreciation of past services, and my proudest incentive to, if possible, increased exertion for the future. The interests of New Ulster and my own are identical. To advance these, no effort of mine shall be spared. I have, hitherto, I hope, been of some assistance in redressing and exposing grievances, — general as well as individual ;— and now that a little more power to serve you has been confided to my hands, I trust I shall not be less zealous, or less urgent for our country's weal. I In the hope that the Council, for which you have been empowered to elect your Representatives, may be speedily assembled, and that an early opportunity may be afforded for pushing forward some of the many important measures which New Zealand so urgently requires, I beg to subscribe myself, Gentlemen, Your faithful servant, W. Brown. Auckland, September 1, 1852.

TO THE ELECTORS OF THE PENSIONER SETTLEMENTS. rj ENTLEMEN,— I beg to return you my grateful and sincere acknowledgments for the liberal support you afforded me ,on the day of the late Election, and you may rest assured that no exertion shall be spared on my part to advance and protect your interests. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, Patrick Dignan. Auckland, Sept. 3, 1852.
