TO THE ELECTORS FOR THE CITY OF AUCKLAND.
f^ ENTLEMEN,— I return you my best vJT thanks for the honor you have this day conferred on me by electing me one of your representatives by so large a majority. I prize this honor the more from the manner in which I have obtained it. I have availed myself of no influence whatever inconsistent with perfect freedom and purity of election, and I will never seek to obtain a seat in the Legislature upon any other principles. You may rely, Gentlemen, with confidence, that the interests of you all, without reference to creed, country, or party, shall receive the same attention at my hands ; and that no exertion shall be wanting on my part to justify the kind and liberal support which I have received from you. I have the honour to be, Gentlemen, Your obliged and obedient servant, Fred. Wiiitaker. Auckland, Aug. 3d, 1852.

A REPORT having been circulated in Auckland that Captain Salmon has been using his influence unfairly to assist Mr. Mason in his canvass for the Pensioner Settlements, and such report being altogether untrue, Captain Salmon takes this opportunity of publicly contradicting it. Mr. Mason is an old and valued friend of Captain Salmon's, and as such has lately been very frequently at his Committee Room, which may probably have given rise to the report. Captain Salmon's Committee are authorised by him to assure the Electors of Auckland that he has never in any way pressed a single voter of the Pensioner Settlements to vote for Mr. Mason, though as Mr. Mason proceeds he wishes him every success. Auckland, 30lh August, 1832.
