To the Editor of the New Zealander.
Sir, — By a remark in the Southern Cress of to day it might be made to appear that there is a difficulty in procuring charts for the Islands of New Zealand which is not the case. The Chart of the Shouraki Gulf, as corrected up to 1849 by Captain Stokes of H.M.S. Acheron, is sold in London at 2s. Approaches to Auckland Harbour, also by Captain Stokes, are to be had for la. each They are published by the Admiralty, /or whom Potter in the city is the principal agent, and sold by all chart sellers near the Docks, and in fact in any part of London, and nautical instrument makers, as vreJl, have posted in their shop windows a notice " Admiralty Charts for sale." so that if shops are not supp'ied with good and proper charts the fault lies only with the abip.master or owners themselves, but not from any difficulty in obtaining them, for the best chart! are now published by the Admiralty at one fourth, and in many cases, one fifth of the cost they were formerly to be obtained at— but cheapness is not tlie only advantage, for in all casea they are decidedly the best. — I am Sir, &c, A. Mariner.
